Playful, Unexpected and Delightful.

The Fort Street Activation blends unique plantings and site furnishing to create a variety of spaces outside of Chrysler House. Part of over $100,000 of public space design in Detroit’s Central Business District.  

Product Design + Landscape Architecture = Detailed Construction

I have personally fabricated and installed projects ranging from products to custom furniture to landscaped gardens. I take this experience to effectively translate good design into reality.

Working with the artist of the unique nine-story mural in the North End neighborhood, I created concept designs and SketchUp model for the 16,000 square foot, handicap accessible North End Sensory Garden. 

This garden was a collaboration with Marcia Biernat, North End Art Studios, Detroit Creative Corridor and Vanguard CDC.

St. Paul Retreat Center requested a redesign of their central outdoor space to provide a place for quiet contemplation throughout the year. 

Keeping costs in mind, the creative four-season plan uses hardy perennials in this sun-shade planting design.

Plants can be beautiful additions to the landscape, but they are also habitat, infrastructure, tools for education and a connection to place.

Here are several examples of planting design created with this in mind.

This 2011 thesis project focuses on urban revitalization in post-industrial Detroit. Building off the energy of Detroit artist Tyree Guyton’s Heidelberg Project for a future Cultural Village, my proposal employs an initial intervention of flexible public space and two key community-centered business anchors. This commercial corridor design intends to be a culturally responsive and accessible environment that threads social awareness and economic opportunity into flexible, adaptive spaces.
